9Under consideration
Video incorporation
I’d love to see the videos you have already made about plants be incorporated into this app.
Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum) Please!
I'm looking forward to trying the spring shoots, young leaves, and maple seeds later in the season :)
Cacti and yuccas
Where are my yuccas. I want to be able to id banana yucca correctly. Tasajil (jumping cactus) fruit can supposedly can be used as a cough drop but o would not try it. To hard to clean of the little owies. Prickly pear tunas usually taste better purple. The yucca with the white flowers growing around a column stick in the center have edible flowers and the center stick is edible when cooked.
Norway spruce
Norway, spruce
Beginners Tab
Would be great to have a filter for beginners. Highly narrowed list (just a few in each category per season) featuring only plants that are plentiful/easy to find, easy to identify, few to no toxic lookalikes, and have a good payoff. Thanks for your consideration!
Browser Application
Create a version of Gather that can be used on a desktop in a browser. Gauging interest in something like this!
Mile-a-Minute Weed
I would like to know if it's edible or medicinal…trust you more than AI.
Reminders to return to a pinned location
Can we have a feature to set reminders to return to a location where we have identified a species? It would help for when we have made an identification but it's too early to forage or remembering where to check again next year.
Distance
While I appreciate the default setting of 50 miles in the app, for some (especially those in larger metropolitan areas) that may mean still inside the city at the edge of the 50 mile limit. I don’t know about you, but there are some things that I would go the distance for. Like elderberries. Just watched your video on that. I’m sold! Then downloaded the app. But there aren’t any within 50 miles. Could you make it the default distance and allow the user to make it larger? Getting out there and going foraging will spark this fire that lights the movement. If I had to drive 150 miles to get elderberries, chances are very good that after a short period of time that on the way I will eventually able to identify more that I had missed previously and thus will be adding additional locations over time. Just have to get those first couple steps and momentum going. Great job, and thank you for all your efforts and information you are sharing. I especially appreciate the are you sure you want to click away pop up for iPhone. You are a visionary! No one else has done that yet and I constantly have to start over because of a click where I didn’t mean to click and it’s so frustrating!! Visionary. I mean that, bro! Keep it up, you’re an inspiration to us all.
Planned
27Committed and queued
Consider adding hibiscus , lemon bee balm, dandelion and chili puquin? I’m in central Texas
Common mallow
Malva sylvestra please, super edible and naturalized to lots of North America
Evening Primrose
Spotted in Avondale Estates, GA on Sept 3rd. Not listed in forge.
Jewelweed & Kinnikinnick
Jewelweed, kinnikinnick plant - grew up with these, the first as a remedy for the poison ivy it grew next to, the second as a tobacco alternative. Would also love to see historical uses and cooking methods to keep traditional bushcraft alive. Or option for a user forum to share educational, horticultural, and culinary knowledge.
Beech
Would love to see beech!
Incorporating falling fruit
I think it would be awsome if you incorporated falling fruit into the app
South Florida species
Would love to see more south Florida edible plants added! I don’t see cocoplum, sea grape, sabal palm, pond apple, marlberry, pigeon plum, persimmon, or wax myrtle, all of which grow in my area. Greenbrier, beggartick (Bidens alba), spotted beebalm, etc. also have edible leaves that can be used as salad greens!
Add the ability to share foraging journal entries
Adds the ability to share journal entries with friends
Cattails?
Chicory
Good morning! Awesome app! I noticed you don’t seem to have chicory (pretty plant that can be used as a coffee substitute). It could be worth adding.

Would love to be able to try a local sichuan peppercorn

Feature: Personal Maps
Add personal in-app maps on which to plot locations of plant species you plan to forage. OpenStreetmap might be a good choice of map to embed.
Medicinal plants
Would love more of the medicinal heavy hitters added like mugwort, hawthorn, motherwort, violets, calendula (would love a much larger list of edible/medicinal flowers, in general). Thank you!
Thistle
I found some thistle that Google says is Nodding thistle. It also says there are certain thistles that are dangerous. I was hoping to find the information on your app, but it isn’t there.
Wild Grape
GrayBark Grape - Vitis cinerea Would love to see what you can dig up about it, it’s hard to find information.
Feature? Foraging invasive species
It would be helpful to have a categorization for invasive species. I think it would encourage people to go out and decrease the population of invasive plants by foraging from them. For example, japanese honeysuckle is invasive where I am, and once I found out that I could forage the flowers, I picked them, enjoyed some honeysuckle jelly, and removed the vine at the same time!
Dandelion
Wood Sorrel
Would love to see Common Burdock!
It's super common in my area
Various wild nuts
Can you add more nuts?
Foraging Journal
Adds the ability for users to create journal entries where they can mark the seasonality, location, and notes for species within the app.
